It's Tuesday morning, and I guess this is technically day two, even though the flight was delayed and I missed most of day 1. I didn't sleep too well last night, strange place an all that, but do feel better for a shower and some sort of refresh.
The flight yesterday was fine. It was long an boring, but fine. In a way, it was better for me that the flight was delayed. It meant I had a day flight rather than a night one, and had I arrived at 8am yesterday I would have been expected to start my hand over in the afternoon. So we have missed a day, but at least I am bit more wide eyed and bushy tailed.
I was met by Helen at around 10pm local time (which is Zulu) when I came through arrivals. We both said how fast we thought 6 months had gone and she told me that 3 months would fly. It was dark, and 25 degrees and humid. This time of year we are starting to go into the drizzly shower season - July August September, basically my whole tour. So the weather will likely be cloudy with rain at times rather than wall to wall sunshine. But I don't mind too much.
I pretty much went straight to bed. There was a cockroach in my shower when I arrived which was lovely, but I haven't seen a land crab yet.
This place seems really cool, with vary varied terrain. Mountains and volcanoes and beaches and forests, all on a tiny little island.
My accommodation is basic, but fine. We each have a sort of bed sit, with en suite bathroom, and as the boss I get a double bed. So that's good! We are all in a row, as you can see from the image here.
Also here are some pictures of my view to the left and to the right.
Helen and I have a meeting with the Administrator at 9am today, so I'm up and ready waiting for that. He is the government representative on the island so he is quite important.
We get wifi in our rooms, but neither my laptop or mobile will connect, which is annoying. Oh well.
Exciting!!
